The early bird catches the worm. Another beautiful sunrise, breakfast, cleaning-up the shelter and then started to the queen’s stage. At least hat’s what we thought, more about it in the next post. The tour was a long one (almost 20 Km) with some decent climbs (ca. 650 m up).

The early bird catches the worm. Another beautiful sunrise, breakfast, cleaning-up the shelter and then started to the queen’s stage. At least hat’s what we thought, more about it in the next post. The tour was a long one (almost 20 Km) with some decent climbs (ca. 650 m up).

We hiked inland, off the coast to the highest peak on the island: Pico Alto. Just before the last climb we took a nap in the gras.

BTW: the Galao is really cheap here: between 80 and 95 Euro cent. Yeah, today we had another stop at a Café. Food is also cheap. Or is it because we live in Stuttgart where everything is expensive?

Through dense forrest up to the summit. Somehow we missed the last bit of our trail and passed the peak. No problem after a while we came to a nice lookout.

This was the first day with real forrest. Everywhere you see these strange, big flowers with yellow blossoms. I think the Azores people don’t like them as much as we do. We passed a group of forestry workers trying to cut their way through the weeds with all kinds of martial tools.

On the last part of today’s hike a dog joined us and accompanied us to the shelter. He left after we went to bed. Maybe he has appreciated the rare enough attention.
Pretty strange: most dogs here are watch dogs kept on chains.

Our destination today was our last stay in a shelter: Raposo. Since the shelters are equipped pretty much the same, upon arrival we immediately felt home. Ah, heres the cooler, put chairs and the table outside, rinse the sweaty clothes, put the stew on the fire, open the wine bottle, make the bed. Power is solar and 12 volts, enough for the lights and charging the phone. The water in the shower is also heated by the sun. No radio, TV, Wifi, …great!
So the last evening we could again enjoy the silence and the view on the sea.

Babs also wants to say something: perfect idyll and silence. You wake up early and its still dark, unfortunately.

A scene at 5:15 am:
B: „ Oli, are you awake?“
O: „Hmm“
B: „What’s time, I’m wide awake“
O: „Just after 5 am“
B: „When can I get up“
O: „When it’s bright outside!“
B: „When?“
O: „In an hour or so“
B: „Sigh, I’m already awake“
O: „Sleep a bit more“
B: „I can’t“
O: „Get your book and read“
B: „Will you bring me a coffee? Without coffee it’s no fun reading“

O: „OK, I’ll get up…“
