Saturday Babs picked up her new car in Neckarsulm and after that we went to visit the nearby salt mine in Bad Friedrichshall. The exhibition is interesting and shows not only aspects that go beyond mining. In 1944 arms factories went underground to undisturbed by Allied bombing produce war material. The underground facilities were built by concentration camp prisoners of of the KZ Kochendorf and these stood at the machines later. “Profitable extermination through work” the Nazis called their program …

Apart from this sad part of the history, you learn something about salt mining and the importance of salt as a commodity, and food, the origin of salt deposits and the mining. The exhibition is setup very exciting and great lit or dark. A visit is recommended.
